Estate administrator in Gothenburg and Kungsbacka

When a person dies, the deceased’s assets, the estate, are normally administered jointly by the beneficiaries. This means that the partners must agree on the decisions taken on behalf of the estate. If the estate is complex or there are difficulties in reaching an agreement, one of the parties to the estate can apply to the district court for an administrator. Download the application here.

What is included in an estate inventory?

An estate administration usually starts with an estate inventory and ends with a distribution of the estate. During the period leading up to the distribution of the estate, the estate must be administered, investigated and liquidated.

This means, among other things, that you need to find out what assets and liabilities the estate has. You then need to administer the assets and ensure that the estate’s debts are paid. In many cases, the estate’s contracts may also need to be cancelled.

What does an estate administrator do?

An estate administrator represents the estate and is responsible for carrying out the administration of the estate, which includes investigating and administering the estate and paying debts. An estate administrator is often able to make independent decisions on behalf of the estate; however, the sale of property typically requires written consent from the parties to the estate. However, for all measures of major importance, the estate administrator must consult with the parties to the estate.

An estate administrator may also decide on the distribution of the inheritance if the parties to the estate are unable to reach an agreement on how the assets should be divided.

You apply for an estate administrator at the district court. In addition to an application fee charged by the district court, the estate administrator is paid for his/her work from the estate’s assets.
